Did You Have Id Cards In High School

My high school did- I think I still have one in my wallet. We had ID cards with our school photo and student ID numbers with bar codes on them. They were used to get into School events like sports games and dances, and they could also used to access you lunch money account. I hardly ever used mine because I never bought school lunch, and I never went to any high school dances, not even homecoming or prom...I was part of the rebel crowd, lol. Most of the other schools my friends went to also had a similar ID card system; my sister just started middle school and they have ID cards as well.

We did have a high school identification card. We use it primarily to enter the school campus. Also, it is used in the library when we borrow books. Sometimes, we use it to borrow school equipments like radio, Balls when we play basketball and volleyball. At times, we also use it at home to show our visitors that we are high school students with our identification cards. [learn2earn]
Oh yeah, the library! I forgot all about the schoo library, lol. >w< Our ID cards were used there, too. [olisaur]

We didn't have them at my school...but that was 35 years ago, and a totally different era in life... [The_Lamb_Lies_Down]

We did have ID cards, but I don't remember if we had any bar codes on it. I know for sure I had a photo on it and an ID number. I think we used ours as library cards but I can't remember what else, if we did. I went to high school in the mid 80's so that was a long time ago - ha ha - everything is kind of fuzzy! [much2say]

No, we didn't have ID cards when I was in High School but that was too long ago for me to even mention it. We only had 325 students in my class and about 95% of them or more went on to college. This was back when parents were more responsible and took better care of their kids. [stealthy]

At my high school we were required to wear our ID cards at all times. They had basically the same thing, photo, student ID number, and whatnot. You needed them to buy Tickets for dances, get into dances and football games, and to buy lunch from the school cafeteria. Everyone had to wear an ID and if someone got caught without one then they would get detention and have to pay $1 for a temporary ID or $5 for a replacement ID. [allyoftherain]

Yes. We had ID cards in high school but not middle school for some reason. We also had bag checks in high school as well as Metal detectors. Which was always a hassle but I understood the need for it considering I went to such a ghetto public school. It probably would've been a good idea to have a better security system at the middle school I went to, though, because one time I remember, a kid brought a gun in school (it wasn't loaded) just to show his friends or something..And it ended up being this big drama.. Anyway. Back to talking about HIGH SCHOOL, we needed our IDs every day to get into the building (otherwise we'd owe the school $1 and have detention), and we needed them to LEAVE during lunch (which you could do once you were a junior or senior). So, we pretty much needed it 24/7. And I had detention during lunch about two or three times a week because I was so disorganized and forgetful! lol [maezee]

Yes, we had to have the ID cards to even get into the high school. If you didn't have it the first day, it was a warning. The second day, detention. It was to make sure nobody who didn't go to the school got in and to prevent violence, somehow (yet, that school still had it's fair amount of violence from the kids who actually went there). Personally, I get using the ID system for some purposes, but the way they were using it at my high school was bound to fail. Miserably. [cherishxbunny]

I still have my ID in High School. Ubfortunately, the ID we had in high school doesn't have Bar Code or Something.. [kent_help2smile]

no we did not have id cards when i was in high school. we had a yearbook, and i had my yearbook picture in it. there were no other pictures of me in the yearbook because i wasn't in any clubs or sports. i thought maybe i would be in the book anyway. no........ [clocks123]

No, in olden days there was no identity card system. All these started very recently I think. Further I have studied in a Government School and it was started just then for our 500 Government quarters. Hence all these were not there then. [Buchi_bulla]

I skipped my high school and entered college directly so no high school ID though I had a college ID. But I don't remember the student ID did me any favor like a discount for anything. Yeah, my classmates used it to buy discount train ticket because they were from other provinces. [magic9]

yes, we did have our Identification cards in high school, and i still keep my 4th year ID card until now.we are required to pin it every time we enter the campus gate, we can't enter the campus with out the ID. I remember I always forgot my ID at home, when i reached the school, and when the security guard will look for my ID I always did my excuse, but they never let me enter school. so i have no choice but to return back home to get my ID.geeeezzz. and we also used our ID card when we barrow books from the library, we need to leave our ID in the library,.just get it back upon returning the books.in our country Identification card is required in every schools. [myramae19]

Hi Olisaur, I keep all my school IDs. From my elementary days to highschool and even up to my college days. i love wathcing the evolution of my self hehehehe. from being a little girl getting prettier as i matured LOL. i also have my library ID and other school organizations that i joined! [msfrancisco9369]

Nope, I don't think so. But maybe in the attic where we keep all our high school memories. But I have to dig it first on the tons of filings. Thats around 20 years ago. Maybe i'll check them when we goes to my parents home. [Fulltank]

We had ID cards but those cards only lasted for about a year or so before they finally realized they really weren't working out. They had really strict policies around those ID cards. If we couldn't provide a card right when asked it was an automatic sending to the office. You could get written up for not carrying the card on you, so leaving it at home accidentally was a no-no. You had to show that card any time you entered a classroom. It was turning out to be something a lot more than they had planned on so they ended up ditching them. I still have my ID card. I figured it would be an interesting keepsake. [highflyingxangel]

Hey Olisaur ! ya off corse i had it in my High school but not like your it was a simple with a close-up snap, school and class mention on it it was used to roamimg in school campus and other activities. But Now it is totaly Modern and updated with all reference and bar coding it essential for dicipline and in natural hazards. [anydayroyal]

my high school had one that we could enter the school campus. i can't remember any other use of it because computers weren't popular then. we've got a separate library cards to borrow books and we used cash to buy lunches and snacks. but i remember clearly that ID cards were absolutely for school guards and teachers only. LOL [Cheiyen]

I went to my senior prom but I was not sober so that helped a lot lol. We had Id cards the last two years I was in school. It was pointless though because they werent necessary for anything at all. You were supposed to use them when you went to the school library for your card to be scanned to check out the items that you wanted to borrow but all you had to do was just tell them your name and it was fine like that. This was about 9 years ago so who knows maybe they actually use them for something more important now. Back then it was just a waste of the schools money to create all those. For years though after we graduated even though the ID wasent current for that year we could go to the movies and show them our ID and only have to pay $5 to watch a movie. That was awesome! [shaggin]

Yes we did. For the first 3 years or so we each had a swipe card each with a picture of ourselves and a bar code and we used to swipe in to every lesson using the swipe machines near the classroom doors. Then for some reason it all went a bit rubbish and stop working so we went back to just taking manual registers like 'yes miss' haha. talk about taking a step back. However for dinner time we had finger print ID and thats how we paid. And now it is the same at the college i am at now, We use finger ID for paying for food but thats about it :D [adamc151]

I have never had to have an ID card. The only time that I wanted to get one was when I decided I wanted my own bank account, so that way I could access all my money when ever I wanted. I needed an ID to open the account, but not to do anything else, like go to dances or w=anything in school. All they needed was your name. [joelle3800]

Hi, Olisaur! Yes, I did have a school ID card when I was in Senior High. We have to wear it like a name tag and pin it next to the school badge on the school uniform whenever we were in the school compound. So, whoever was caught without the name tag would be penalized by the 'discipline' teacher, the fiercest teacher in the school and many students were scared of him. Once he caught me without a name tag and asked me about it with his strict voice. I told him I was going home, but he said to wear it 'always' when I was still inside the school area. Grrr... I was actually heading to the school gate and accidentally bumped into him. Lucky he didn't say anything after that. rolleyes [corrycrystal]

I did have High School ID but it was made of cardboard and has to be changed every year unlike now that you just place a sticker corresponding to the current year you're enrolled and made of plastic. You can use it everywhere but we can't use it to borrow books. [joseline0568]

Hi Olisaur, Yes! Each and every year we had to take those dreadful id card pictures that you had to keep on your person. I didn't like it very much back then but history repeats itself because in college your suppose to carry your id cards or you don't enter the campus bldgs. How interesting? . We are in the technology age where id cards are a means to your identity. driver's licenses credit cards work id's Yep, the "id" phenomenon continues.. [tranquilone]

ID cards would still definitely stay. For security reasons and protection... [jerichojanine]

When I was in high school back between 1997-2001, the school had established student picture IDs with your lunch period glaringly big lol. You had to have it visible at all times especially coming into the school, going and coming back from lunch etc. If you happened to lose your id, you had to paid $2 or a little more I think for a brand new one. If you happened to leave at home by accident, you had to get a temporary ID. There were kids that did give security hassle because they didn't want to wear it and ended up in detention. [BinaryKat]

Several of the schools I went to required student id's like the one you described. One school I went to in Detroit required a State issued ID card and you had to wear it all times. You weren't allowed in the school without it and you wore it on a cloth band around your neck where they could see it easily. I still have several of mine. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **HAPPINESS IS A CHOICE** [twoey68]

Yes, I still have it but it was hidden in the cabinet. It is mainly use to enter the school campus and no any purposes. Unlike yours, we don't have barcodes. My school was just a public school that's why we don't have that. [joannaleed]

I m also have 1 ID card i m using it right now becauz im in collage thats why :D and yes we are using it for entring in COllage i dont think ID card is bad idea becauz we have swap card u have to scan and swap it for entring in any room of collage or in collage even if uwant to go in Ground u need that to acecces :D Hope u all got why i like ID Cards :D [Rvd007]
Hi Rvd: Lucky you, not only because of the cards but because, this is the best time for us to live, the times where we are just in school and problems semms to be easier that they are when you are in the so called "real life". I think the ID Cards are an excellent idea and with luck would be more like that in every school and college. Thanks for your answer. Hope you are having a nice day. Keep mylotting. Take good care of you. -Alvaro. [starsailover]

My high school definitely had id cards, we had to. I really do not know of any high school that does not give their students id cards. In college, everyone has to have id cards. I have had id cards since middle school. [rogue13xmen13]

Hi olisaur: I have never received a car like that. Looks super nice even if you didn't use it as much as you could when you were in your high school. Of course we have a card with our names and a code as an ID but it was just to ask for books in the school library and to use the computers of our school. Thanks for sharing with us how the things worked in your school. Hope you are having a nice day. Keep mylotting. Take good care of you. -Alvaro. [starsailover]

yes why not.if we dont wear the id my teacher will punish me.my id has my name study class section and photo. [sathya264]

Yes we did! We got one every year compared to college who got 1 in your whole stay... they require us to return them though! I hate it! what the hell would they do with those cards with our faces and names on it? we even payed for it in the miscellaneous fee! btw I remember the sanction of forgetting your ID. You have to wear those big name plates with a caption of I am so Irresponsible that I forgot My ID! grrrrrrr [shuyin101]

Well I had ID cards only during junior school. When I came to secondary section, there were no ID cards. I feel ID cards are essential only for kids! [UnnatV]
