Did You Take/or Are You Taking Keyboarding In School

My daughter takes ketboarding and I did when I was in school but neither one of us are traditional in the manner in which we type. It's tougher for her because it is a grade but I was just wondering about everyone else. Do you type according to keyboarding rules or do you have your own way of typing? Do you look at the key board or the screen and what is that nasty little letter that gives you the most problem when typing? lol

i never did take typing in school. when i got my computer u should have seen me trying to peck out the words. i have developed my own 2 finger way to type. works for me. [ANTIQUELADY]
Alot of people type with two fingers. As long as it's working. I'm pretty fast at it but I still look at the keyboard. I only took it one semester at school. I started with two fingers too. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]

Hi Jen, typing! Ugh :( I wish I had taken it. I should still to be honest. I am an old school hunt and pecker...gotta look at 'em, and my fingers are just big enough that I often hit more than one key. Hitting that bleepin' cap key is a regular occurrence as is the 's' instead of the 'a'. WHich is odd eh? Cuz they are on opposite sides of that 'a'. There is another, the second letter getting capped too. I think it is this keybd maybe. One thing I know is this keybd, is the left shift often won't give me the upper case. So what's it all mean?? ell...see? missed the W there...anyway...what's it all mean? On here, (on the Lot) I go back to fix it. So that mousing, combined with my odd style, big fingers, the whole process aggravates a tendonitis in my arm, and the pain is very debilitating. The more time I spend here, the worse it is of course. So in an effort to try to get it better, I have been trying to read more than post. Or at least that is what I am gonna try for awhile till I can get rid of some of this pain. To my private friends, when I email, many of my older friends, I don't go back and fix, I just try the word over or even leave all the typos if i figure they will still be able to read it. They are use to it now and all seem more to readily willing to forgive me for it. But I have the best friends :) But on here...the Lot... see what I do for you guys? My commitment? Doesn't it warm your heart?? wub [plunketear]

When I went to school it was on a manual typewriter where I learned to type. I still call it typing and some people (kids) laugh when they hear it. I took typing and stenography for two years. I hated sten!! LOL I have minor problems with the numbers because I got away from typing for a long time. I still have to think about what ones I am using, except when I type in my zip code. That is on automatic!! I still transpose some words like the/teh, but thank goodness for spell check!! I have my computer set up that no matter where I am typing, it highlights misspelled words. Now, if I use the wrong word, like their/there, it will not catch that, unless I am using the word processor like MSWord. [nanajanet]
Thank goodness for spell check where my typing errors are concerned. I don't use it here but when I submit articles I definately do. I have an issue with the being teh too. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]

I actually took typing on a typewriter! At the time that I took it I had no idea how useful this skill would be for me all of my life. I enter data into a keyboard on a daily basis, and have for much of my life. For the most part, I type according to the rules I learned all those years ago. I look at the screen when I enter data, unless I'm looking at something else, such as talking with someone. I tend to have the most problems with numbers. I must have skipped class the days I was supposed to be learning numbers. wink [MonkOVision]
I don't type a lot of numbers, but the more I practice the better I get. You'll get better with more practice! [MonkOVision]

Hi dear well, i am one who is not a good typist and sure i never follow keyboard rules and i type with 2-3 fingers and look at the key board while typing I am not a good typist Take care [cupid74]
its ok i know i can manage it take care [cupid74]

Jen, I know typewriting very well and can type at at least 40-50 words per minutes without looking at the key board. happy [dpk262006]
I can understand your situation, you are allowed to type while seeing the key board.lol [dpk262006]

All of our children learnt to type on a computer keyboard actually and that includes our 2 sons. My partner learnt typing and as she says it was an old manual typewriter and they learnt to touch type. To make sure they didn't look at the keyboard, they had a board which say over the keys and partly down the frnt she said. They had to use that covering from about 2 weeks after they started to type an dhad it there for the rest of the year. While my partner might "grumble" about how hard it was to learn by that method, it obviously worked very well as she stil types without looking at the keys and does not have many errors at all. In fact she can type faster than our children and with more accuracy as well whihc gives her a laugh. Now I am totally different as I am one of those self-taught 2 finger typing people who also makes heaps of typos, some of which I do not see until it is too late. angry Basically I think that as long as we can type, with as few errors as possible naturally, and everyone can understand what we say, the speed generally does not matter too much. I do know that since I have been posting here on myLot my speed has improved though so a little bit of practice does not hurt us. [oldboy46]
I am pretty much self taught too. I know the basics as far as the home keys and stuff but following those is a different story. I'm pretty quick but I still have to look at the keyboard which I would like not to have to do. I think I'm going to practice a little more at not looking.lol No telling what I'll write. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]
