I have been home schooling my children for quite some time now and wonder if there are any other people on mylot who also homeschool. What are your experiences with home schooling?

Hi! I homeschooled my son for 5 years through high school. He graduated in 2003. He had some learning disabilities and the teachers were not willing to modify for him. We enjoyed homeschooling. We were a member of a large homeschool group so I had plenty of resources to help me. I took him to a math teacher, science lab, and even had a Spanish teacher come to the house. We had some excellent field trips. My son took the GED so there would not be a hassle getting into college. And, I'm happy to say, is mainting a B average in college! [perrytx]

no me also dont think its good [saket_123sharma]

I have been homeschooling for 2 years now. We don't do a lot of book work each day but my 5 year old is doing first grade work and second grade science. I don't think she'd be doing this good if she were in public school. [wahmbrendamh]

Hi, my children are adults now, but we did homeschool periodically while they were growing up. When my children reached middle school ages, they wanted to go to public school to participate in sports, dances, and school events. We did know other children who were homeschooled and were only allowed to go to school events as a guest, not participant. [birthlady]

i think that homeshool is very bad idea ... the best way to educate is normal school ... in homeschool you can lenr everything and it's annoying when your mother/fother gives you a bad grade ... over thet school lerns not only knowlage but also cooperating whit other people ... how to discuss... and beeing with other people ... in school you have friends ... you can meet nev people, it's tru that people can be bad .. but it's prepearing to be adult. that's why homeschool in my country is banned and you have to go to school untill toy're 18 so i think that this is very good ... Good luck for the future and have a nice day ! [dranzer]

No I don't homeschool. My children love going to school. [krysy1982]

I've been homeschooling for 2 years now. I love it! Unfortunately my parents aren't totally set on the idea though. [wahmbrendamh]
That is awesome. It is good to see that others see the value in home schooling, even if there are others who do not agree with them! [sororravn]

My son isn't actually homeschooled, as he's still 4, but we've talked about homeschooling him. But the only thing that really stops us from seriously doing it, is wondering about him getting the proper social experience with other kids his age, and things like that. do you have that problem? what are the benefits for you to home school them? LOL sorry, i'm full of questions because you're the first i've known or seen that homeschools. [ljcapps]
"My older kids experience with socialization in public school was not the kind of social experience I wanted for them. Homeschooled children can have just as much, if not more social experience as a child in public school. Most areas have homeschool groups that get together for meetings, field trips and assorted activities. Plus, depending on your child's interests there things like Scouts, Boys/Girls' Club, music lessons, dance classes, 4-H,Youth Groups[churches groups],etc." VERY WELL SAID! and very true...I was a homeschooling mom myself and I have to say that my kids socialized MORE when they were pulled for homeschooling then they did and do while in public school...not to mention, lets face it..how much "play time" do they really get in school anyway?? The school my kids go to here in NY DOESNT HAVE recess (even the elementary school doesnt) and they only get 20 mins for lunch so there is no "hangin out with friends" time.. [Ravenladyj]

I have a preschooler and we have been home schooling for a year. We really enjoy making our own schedule. I try to plan a couple of fun activities during the week like play dates, park time and lunch time at work with Daddy. Sometimes we attend story time at our local library. I plan to home school our second child when she is old enough as well. [kaiyascloset]

We tried sending our daughter to public school and after three weeks she hated it. That was last year. I have wanted to homeschool her since she was a month old though. We love it. [michmdmama]

Yes but when they get old enough to go to the Kindergarden I want them to attend public school. [magnet]

Yes, I home school my children and love it! We have been doing this for 3 years now and they have grown in so many ways since we started. I truly believe that it is the best decision I ever made for us. I plan to finish high school with my oldest. Matter of fact, I picked up a physiology book and a biology book today to use next year. I am hoping to get things planned out soon for that. Do you ever look at thehomschoolnetwork website? It is a fabulous site and has a lot of interesting topics on it. [carolscash]
I have not checked it out yet but I plan on checking it out soon. Thanks for the info! [sororravn]

my kids are 9 and 12 and we started home schooling this year. i love it. my kids have learned so much more. the talking back, having to dress like others, wanting to wear make up etc. have all stopped. my kids are not perfect but they have made so much of an improvement by not being around some of the kids at school. that and i know what is going on in there life. we talk more and are more open. we get to go do things that we couldnt do before. when they were tested in public school they were doing good. now they took the test and wow what a difference my kids say it is because they dont have to stop learning cause some kid is acting dumb etc. that and i can give them the one one with things they need explained to them. that and i dont give them the answers to get them out of my hair like the teachers at school did. home school is great. That is what I love about home schooling our girls. They are not in any competition with anyone while trying to learn. They are more focused on schoolwork than they are about fitting in with everyone else! [sororravn]
