Do You Know Enough Maths To Be A Police Officer

My 14 yr old step son was telling me last night, that he wants to be a Police Officer. One of the requirements is at least a C pass in maths. He is concerned about this, as he is quite weak in maths. I have told him his Mother must arrange tutoring for him soon, not wait until his final year.

Is a C on the police officer test? I would not think that math would be very difficult on a police officer tests, basic math and maybe some algebra. I bet there is a book he can buy to help him pass the test. [sedel1027]
No, the C is required for year 11 or year 12 maths. The Police Academy require applicants to have achieved their high school certificate with all subjects having a pass of C or above. It is also compulsory to do English, Maths & Society. [jennybianca]

what we need is just learn the basic math, it is good enough already :) [etavasi]
Do you mean your maths is good enough already? Thats great. [jennybianca]

It is great that he is showing some goals for his life. Hope mom does not go into witch mode again. It might be just what he needs for a turnaround at school. What type of math does a police officer need, simple four functions? Money, time, geometry, calculus? There are online tutors available, too. I hope his mom values him enough that she gets tutoring he needs. [GardenGerty]
I am not entirely sure what maths is in year 11 & 12 nowadays. I do know that although they still have the hard "double maths", that they also have much easier maths for many students to do. I am sure that a C grade being sufficient to possibly enter the police academy, would only be basic maths. I hope his Mum gets a tutor for him. They are available here, & it will be much harder to catch up if they let it wait. [jennybianca]

A C is not at all that bad... but if an A or B is required to enter a police training school... then he should definitely start working hard now... and i agree with you... a tutor at this stage is needed... waiting until his final year might be too late... since Math at that stage is already very difficult... Yes, & my step son knows this. But will he do anything about it? [jennybianca]

Hi Jenny dear thanks for this information. As son of a police officer, it is quite natural for him to follow the same step. He is 14, there is much time ahead. But why his mother should arrange, why not you? DR.B.SARAF Ph.D. [bhubaneshwar]
His Mother should arrange because he lives a lot more with her, & because she receives Child Support to pay for it. I don't. She should take on her full responsibilities for her son & not try to leave it to me. [jennybianca]

Yes, like your step son many students have to brush their maths skills before starting their career choice. I hated Maths when I was at school. I had a teacher that said if I was that stupid he was not going to explain the topic to me again. So I stopped asking and concentrated on the subjects that I enjoyed and did well in. I got a C pass in English Language, History and RE but I got an F in Maths. I wanted to become a teacher and so I needed a grade C in Maths. So I went to evening classes and had an excellent teacher that really cared about his student's understanding. I got my C pass and went to university to study English Literature and do teacher training. I hope that you step son gets a great tutor and his grade C so he can become a police officer. [maximax8]
You were committed & obviously worked hard tp improve your maths. This is a good attitude. I dont think my step son has this attitude. [jennybianca]
