Do You Think The Educational System Works

Do you think with the social class system that has been in place of schools for decades, our kids can properly function or work in the school system without being comprimised or altered in thier pusuit of knowledge. For decades there has been a social class system in highscools and even in some middleschools that dictates the way our children act and behave in schools and when they leave school. With this and several other problems like the teachers lack of interest, students inability to learn, and the blantant direagard for the rules that children show, can a school run the way it should with all these fualts in place. Our kids are growing up faster and learning quicker, that they dont needhis parents as much as the parents think. Some kids can fix their own supper, wash their own clothes, get to and from school own his own and in some cases earn enough money to live on their own while still in highschool. Even kids in middle school are showing less and less respect for their teachers becuase they know that the teachers dont know that much more than them, or that they dont show enough respect towards the student. So with all the faults in schools both large and small do you think our children are getting their worth of knowledge and fun?

I think the educational system can and does work, even with the problems that you outline. To be honest, the social class system is something that the children are going to have to deal with well into their adult lives. Honestly, a big part of education is parental involvement. I think more than the school system being damaged, the lack of parental involvement is to blame. In High School kids shouldn't be responsible for fixing their own meals, washing their clothes and all that. Yes, they should have chores and be a part of the family, but they shouldn't be left on their own to fend for themselves like that. Teachers don't show respect for the students because the students are showing they don't care to learn. I know from experience that the teachers will grasp onto students that are showing that they WANT to be there. I honestly think rather than going after how horrible the schools are we should be looking at how parents can encourage their children to be good students, to be respectful of authority figures, and to put personal motivation into the kids. Thank you for your input/views on this matter. It is greatly appreciated. (sorry for delay, forgot about discussion) [Chey1970]

Hi Chey, There is a great need for change in our education system. The whole system has to be re-accessed, but this will take time and a beginning has to be made now. Blessings. [Pose123]
Yes, I have to agree with you on that. [Chey1970]

With the details that you mentioned, a school having such faults surely wouldn't suffice with that worth of knowledge and fun that you are implying. However not all schools are like that, not all teachers are like what you described as well as students who were raised properly by their parents that enables them to grant respect to their teachers even though if the obvious disparities with knowledge can be distinguished. Knowing more doesn't grant anybody to be arrogant about it. Indeed, there is that social construct in educational systems which is also present in other systems like at work or in government, even at home, there is social constructs that are apparent. Nah, that's quite alright. No need to apologize happy [ratyz5]

No not at all. the education system in India is eroded by politics and community based seat reservation system the whole educational board needs over hauling.... [maathav]

My personal opinion is that it worked a hell of a lot better back in the "old days" then it works now. I think it works, but to make it work, we are paying a lot of money into the system. The teachers are under educated, they dont stand up for themselves, and the kids dont learn respect. You hit the nail on the head. [enchantedleppard]
I have to agree with you enchanted. Things surely have changed from when I went to school (as you put it and I agree - the old days). [Chey1970]

Hi Chey, Great day to you....I would say that our educational system does not work for our children. First I think there are tooooooo many days off. I think it is conformed to the teachers and other staff, not the children. Here where we live they get days off for our annual chicken festival, for the girls or boys winning a ballgame, for holidays that bear no meaning upon education. Fall break, christmas vacation, spring break, It is just unreal. I mean if you are gonna go to school, go to school, not to every little thing that moves have a day off. When we went to school we did not get all these days off, and if you will notice, the older generation are smarter thann the new generation, because they went to school. Schhols are not schools today they are a playground for teachers to have days, weeks, then months off. I realize children deserve a break now and then, but goodness not for every date they consider a time to cancel school. I have rattled enough.....but I will say that if I had to choose my employment again, I would go to college to be a teacher, so I could have umpteen days off a year and get paid to do it. Have a blessed day Kathy [kcook57]
Awww sure he wants to stay with his friends....I don't blame him for that, and 14 and in college, thats a tad bit too much for a 14 yr old, although as smart as he is he probally could handle it. I just hope you can come to a happy medium what to do Chey, I know whatever you choose will be good & right for your child. Have a great day. [kcook57]

Schools work better when parents are actively involved. And some districts are better than others. Down in LA we had to fight for my son's rights as an autistic child. The district wanted to put him in as developmentally delayed. The district up here is much more receptive. As for kids and their behavior and whole social class system, well that's always been there. Some kids survive it better than others. Probably the ones whose family life has left them more well grounded and secure. At least we have a school system that's open to everybody. In some countries, poor children don't even get the opportunity. [dawnald]
Yes, I do agree that there should be parental involvement with the schools. You also make a very valid point about some countries not having such a school system as we do here in the States. I do believe though that every community/district is a bit different in how things are done. As you have stated. Thank you Dawn for your insightfulness. [Chey1970]
