When I was a kid my mum used to give me pocket money to buy some
juices and snakes during the break times in the school, but
recently most of the parents would not give the pocket money to
the kids when they are going to School because the parents thoughts
that the kids will misuse that pocket money. So still do you give
pocket money to your kids when they are going to the school?

i dont usually because there is nothing for my daughters to buy at school unless they have a pizza or a spirit day (when you can buy a glowstick or a bag of popcorn). i make sure that i add plenty of treats and snacks to their lunches so there is no need to buy anything. [cher913]

This is one of the best method and has to follows in order to avoid to gives some money to the kids. yes i also used to get pocket money. but i guess those were simple days and are gone for good. today there are many unhealthy tempting distractions. so i believe one should teach children to keep account of their spendings and keep an eye on them. you should not stop giving pocket money as in some ways it teaches them to make independent choice and balance their budget. yes, i think that pocket money help student to be standing with their friends. Because some friends are dominating toward their friend just because they are getting pocket money . They always somewhere show that they are richer than you because he is spending money on his needs n you are not. Ans somewhere you also think that their parents love them much then u because they are giving pocket money to their child . And from your son/daughter nature you come to know that how and where your child will use this money.So except restricting them to give pocket money. Since I don't have kids, I cant say that I do. However I feel that pocket money should be given once in a while so that he can buy some chocolates or Ice-cream. However in these times it is not safe to give too much money too frequently because if others find that the kid is having too much money, that can lead to trouble. [taztheone]

Hi Binthu! I have two school going sons. They are living with me. I do not give them money. Rather I give them foods, biscuits and water with them. I think it is easy for them. Because foods of outside shops are not always hygienic. Foods of outside shops may create trouble of their stomach. As such I have decided not to allow them to have foods from outside. In our days if the school kid were carying pocket money teacher used to called the parents in school. Due to aviod and to attend the school is shame for parents never pay the pocketmoney to me. Hello Bintu, This is a nice discussion! As for me, my mother used to give me pocket money to buy food during break time or we called in as recess time! I did not get much money, because the food selling at the canteen is cheaper than others food we buy outside the school. There were some of my friends did not bring pocket money to school, they bring lunch box to school everyday. I have my kids now but they still not go to school now. But my nephew and niece are in primary school now. They do bring money to school. And I notice they bring quite a lot of pocket money to school. I am wondering why they need so much of money? Is the food selling in the canteen is no longer cheaper compare to outside? I yet to find it out. If my kids go to school in the future, I will try to prepare lunch box for them to bring to school. I am still a teenager and both of my parents make sure I have more than enough money when I leave the house. They give me enough lunch money, and than more money to hang out on weekends. They always want me to be prepared, and have extra "pocket money" as you say. Most of my friends get a lot of pocket money from their parents also, so I guess pocket money is still given unlike you think! =] - I am always mature with the money given to me and always return the change to the parent that gave it to me. Maybe that is why they always make sure I have more than enough money, because I am mature and responsible with it unlike most kids would be if their parents gave them a lot of money to walk around town with. I think children needs some money to know how to handle it. My mother used to give me two dollars so I can buy after school snacks for me and my brother. I would go to different stores to check the prices so I could get the most out of my two dollars. The allowance helped me learn how important money is and how careful we need to be when spending it. Hi Cool, When I was in the school I used to have my home made foods to the school because of the great quality and excellent taste, as you have been known that we never ever have the chance to gets the real foods from the school canteen and also it may contains some of the bad ingredients while preparing. May some time I used to get 5 Dirhams from my dad for the purpose of the biscuits and other juices to buy from the school canteen. So I am so happy that you too well familiar with Dirhams and may be both of us used to have the preliminary education in the same school. Anyway most of the parents would not prefer to give the pocket money to the kids while going to the school because of the habitual and also it is not at all advisable all the times. Have a nice day.
