(ex. they will read the word on as no)My other son is unable to read period he is Autistic. My other son has Asbergers. My oldest has trouble with acedemics because of this problem. Call the school board and find out what department handles this. When you call them, they will tell you what you need to do. Often there are special forms and hoops you need to jump through before getting specialized testing. [sedel1027]
I have tried this before But, maybe I just need to keep on being persistant. I will try again calling again. thank you ! [dbcraff]

There should be a plce that you can take him so he can be yested, your local health department should be sble to help you. [kebpete]
The kealth department says it is the schools responsibility because it pertains to education and learning. Thank you for you thought though. [dbcraff]

well, since they do have other disorders the school should be well aware of the fact and testing might be a little tricky. but you should talk to your schools counsler and see what options they can give you. they should have information on where you can get your children tested. i was tested when i was younger and i had only a slight case that they said can go away with concentration and practice. but because your children have other learning problems, i'm not exactly sure, but a counsler should be able to point you in the right direction. i was really young when i got it done. so i don't remember a lot. they also were trying to test me for ADD, which i didn't have. they would have someone come in and i'd go to another room and just do some worksheets and word problems, is was a woman, she was really kind to me from what i remember. i just did a series of problems she would ask me to read her small lines and stuff like that. for me, i only mixed up certian letter and numbers, which made math a little harder for me. i wouldn't reverse a lot, just 2 or 3 in a word. but thats all i really remember. i think i was in 2nd or 3rd grade when they tested me. i didn't get any special treatment in school after that, just some worksheets i needed to do at home. they said doing word finds will help my mind and eyes focus...i still have a hard time with them today. you need to ask the school for a notice of procedural safeguards and parents rights. you can usually obtain this by request of the school or by the school corporation. in the state which i live in a simple verbal or written request for evaulation is all that is needed. if they fail to comply with my wishes i can file a complaint with the state stating that the school system has failed to comply with my request. the state then does an investigation. i have never had to do this because the school here has been very helpful with my children. good luck to you and your family. Yes I have a copy of the parents rights. I already filed a compliant last year because they were not giving my son his o.t. therapy as stated in his IEP wich I won. I know they are required to test. I guess what I need to know is if there is a special test that should be done for children suspected of having dsylexia? I think I posted my question wrong. Thank you for your response! [dbcraff]

Keep on at the school and maybe go see your Dr too. Your kids have the right to have the school help however they needs them too. A lot of English school hve a special needs preson on the staff who can monitor the situation and request outside help. Talk to the teacher, head of infants/juniors, headmaster, make appointments if neccessary. You have got your hands full really. My oldest Bong (7) has Autism, ADHD and speach delay, school are now on about possible dyzsparxia so I sort of understand a bit how you feel. It just takes so long to get anything done. May I add you to mt friend list please? [rainbow]
I hope you are feeling happier and more positive today. Keep trying to find more people wo may be able th ohelp is there a Dylexia society of someone who could give you more advice. I truly wish this is sorted out afor you soon! Thanks for becoming my friend. [rainbow]
