why do teachers give homework? i think that whatever that the teachers want the students to learn , they should be good enough to make them understand at school itself. home should be for home and not for school.

I think it si absolutely necessary to give homework.I think in this way the students learn more as they revise all the things after going home. [anup12]
Homework actually serves two purposes. First, it reinforces materials learned that day, and it also measures the childs ability to accomplish tasks during a time when they would rather be doing something else (like playing XBOX360) aka, a measurement of responsibility. Although the grade you receive from your homework is important, its even more important to receive a 'Complete'. It shows that you can handle additional tasks. happy mylot day. [kavita23]
children are overburdened with learning crap which constitutes as part of the portion and teachers are given the responsibility of completing the same in a stipulated time ,the crap thought is not value added as to make the child better equipped inlife rather makes them into bookworms,or parrots for a short while ,later forgotten, but in the meantime builds stress and induces suicidal tendencies, resulting to suicide many a times, [jal1948]
I would agree as well as disagree with you. I mean homework should not be the extension of the classwork. But at the same time it should be an activity to make you think and apply what you have learned in practical aspects of life. It could be made funny and entertaining education mode. Ofcourse it should also mature with your age/class. [sachinb]
well, u have attacked my profession directly. ok let us see it this way. how good would u have been in subjects like maths and science without working at home? is half an hour of school class of maths sufficient for u? what ever is done in school has to be recapitulated or else u forget it. that is the principle.. if u dont use your own brain adn recll u will forget. and teachers aare to guide u, u are to look for knowledge yourself and not be spoonfed. The homeworks that were given to us when I was still in school were actually lessons to be taken up the next meeting. Homeworks are for recitation purposes also. I think it is okay to have assignments during the weekdays. I just wish that weekends should be free days so that students can enjoy the only 2 days that they have for play and fun. Also it will be better if the homeworks or projects given by the teachers are those that can be done by the students alone for more often than not it is the parents who do them and not the students.
