Sadly its getting to the point where it is not even safe to send your kids to school. My kids are still in elementary school and I really hope nothing is going on right now. But in High School is where most of this is happening. Maybe I will start home schooling so I don't have to worry about them at all. All these teacher sleeping with there students is getting out of hand. Kids are supposed to be safe in school.

It's nuts. My older son is 21 so he's outta there. My younger one is 17 and, if a teacher so much as LOOKS at him wrong, I will pull him out of school and finish his schooling at home. He's smart though and has no interest in any of that but you just never know. I don't understand why the schools don't screen teachers better. I know there is a shortage but we want to have our kids safe and protected and this is getting out of hand. [wotfpatty]

I'd like to hear a television interview with most of these teachers that have been accused of touching, fondling or having intercourse with their students. Would like a "why" explanation. Part of me thinks it's for pleasure but another part thinks it's power. All children respect their teachers as this is something taught at home. I am saddened that our school systems don't do a more thorough background investigation when hiring. [carolbee]

It's insane, as a person studying to become a teacher, I know some people who are going into the profession just for the girls. Yes, you heard me, male teachers who just do it so they can sleep with the girls. There is even an Anime about this called "GTO". [rogue13xmen13]

This is terrible. Part of it is the fault of the Teacher's Union, they do not allow schools to fire bad teachers. Maybe there should be an Independent Body whose decision supersedes that of the Union and then they can give these abusers the boot. It is a matter of power and not just unbridled s*exual passions, and the teachers doing it are abusing their authority. I do think home schooling or private schools are a good idea. The public school system seems to be going to hell in a handbook. [suspenseful]

I know this is a problem but I really think it is only a small part of the teachers in the country. Most teachers would not think of doing this. Sometimes we have to realize that certain stories are seen a lot on the news because everyone wants to see sensational stories. School systems do need to do a better job with background checks on employees. [jillmalitz]
